We are born with a principle of life, a principle so POWERFUL, that it creates a human being out of two cells!!
It helps to heal and run the body with an innate/inborn mechanism.
It controls and coordinates every cell in the body,(without our conscious input).
It is essential for YOUR survival by helping you adapt to your environment.
Chiropractic Principle #20: A living thing has an inborn intelligence within its body called innate intelligence ( We are born with it!)
(go to – About Chiropractic)
It’s MISSION – Chiropractic Principle #21 – The mission of innate intelligence is to maintain the material of the body of the living thing in active organization.
This innate intelligence uses the nerve system as its main tool to run, coordinate and heal the body!
An interference in the nerve system will decrease the body’s ability to heal and run itself.
A vertebra out of its proper alignment (vertebral subluxation) will affect its surrounding tissues- including the nerve system.
The adjustment helps to remove nerve interference /nerve irritation to restore proper nerve flow which allows the innate intelligence to express itself. . . .You become a better expression of what you are intended to be.
This is big stuff!!
It’s not just about pushing on backbones to alleviate a condition ,(which can happen because of this powerful principle), its about helping to improve the function of every organ, gland and cell!!
(quote from ‘anomynous ‘)
We have all heard of this principle – if we save 50$ a month starting at age 21 by the time we are 55 we can accrue close to a million dollars.
The same principle applies to health. Take a long view. One of the keys to longevity, in my opinion, is to consistently re-commit to taking care of yourself!! And I use the term ‘re-commit’ because we ALL fall of the horse.
Here is a great quote from Brian Tracy which applies to health “The key to a long term success is for you to dedicate yourself to continuous improvement. If you become one tenth of one percent more productive each day, that amounts to 1/1000th improvement per day.. Is that possible? Of course it is! And over time that adds up to 26% more productive each year”
What does that mean to me? To you? Add more health raising activities to your schedule every week and month and the results will accumulate!
It works the same with the adjustment. The body functioning better after one adjustment may not amount to much for some people, but having a regularly adjusted spine and clear nerve system over the course of 5 years, 10 years, 20 years. . . . imagine the possibilities!
So consider the long view…don’t beat yourself up, recommit to a plan to get in better shape, eat better, get more rest and get consistent adjustments!
Adjustments = Strength
There is a greater dimension to health than just feeling good. Many people answer this question, “good health is feeling good”. This is nice, but it has very little to do with having good health.
What is Health?
There is so much more to being healthy than how you feel! The problem with health is that no one really has a good definition of what that term means. Most of the definitions out there are too vague or confusing.
One of the best definitions of health I’ve encountered is – normal function and ability to adapt to most of the stress you face in your day. It is the result of the harmonious function of all the organs of the body under the masterful direction of the brain.
Health is not just how you feel; it’s how you are functioning.
Where does health come from? Health comes from within. Health is the natural state of the adequate expression of the forces of innate intelligence in your body. Your body has the inborn ability to heal itself naturally. You were born to be healthy and function normally.
The catch is, in order for your body to be able to heal itself it must be free from interference in the nerve system. The nerve system controls the function of every cell, tissue, organ, and system in your body. The number one cause of interference to the nerve system today is the vertebral subluxation.
Regular chiropractic care is a process of attaining health, happiness, and vitality, allowing you to live your life to its fullest potential. My wish to you is to live your life to its fullest and improve the quality of your life by creating health naturally.
A critical element in understanding the necessity of chiropractic care for every man, woman, and child is explained by a model known as the safety pin cycle. The model illustrates, in a very simple way, the vital communication that occurs in the nerve system.
The Brain sends signals to tissue cells via one side (known as the efferent side) and tissue cells communicate back with the brain via another pathway (the afferent side).
In this manner, your body is constantly communicating with itself.
Unfortunately, this communication can be disrupted by vertebral subluxation, a misaligned spinal bone that disrupts nerve system function.
(Thank you Jim Chester, D.C)
Spinal Mis-Alignments (Vertebral Subluxations ) are caused by an inability to adapt to physical, chemical, and emotional stresses that we encounter every day.
The chiropractor’s objective is to locate, analyze, and assist in the correction of vertebral subluxations (restoring normal alignment and function of the spine to allow the proper brain-body connection). This helps to ensure that messages are getting through loud and clear.
Can You Fix Me . . .Doc?
Is there really a fix when it comes to your body? When we feel better from a cold or an injury. . are we fixed? If we take a drug for an ailment and feel better . . did the drug fix you? If you feel better after an adjustment, are you fixed? My answer is “It all depends on your personal definition of fixing”. If ‘fix’ to you is feeling better, than yes, you can be fixed.
In my opinion, there is no such thing as fixing the body. Sorry. We have to move away from this dangerous idea that you can go to a doctor and take a pill, or get one adjustment, etc., and expect a fix. Of course, you can feel better, but the body is a dynamic organism. The human body does not stop and everyday we are subjected to physical, chemical and emotional stresses of life.
Please do not misunderstand this point. One of the definitions of ‘fixed’ is to repair or restore by replacing a part or putting together what is torn or broken.
The body can be repaired but the body is always in a continuous state of change! A machine can be fixed. You replace the part, and whammo, it is working again perfectly. It’s entirely different with our body. There are too many variables (parts). Our bodies require much more daily attention and maintenance compared to machines even when we feel GREAT!
Also, how you feel on a day to day basis is not a strong indicator of how healthy you are. Our bodies are simply adapting to everything we do every second of our life.. You can feel miserable one day and great the next. Of course you need to pay attention to your body but don’t mistake feeling good for fixed and not feeling good to – broken.
There is another aspect to this – “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it”. This philosophy is dangerous when it comes to our bodies. This is saying “there is nothing wrong with me, I feel fine” Most vertebral subluxations are not felt. Does that mean that you are fine? No, you may feel fine, but you have a misaligned vertebra interfering with the proper function of the nerve system. The inborn wisdom of your body, which controls and coordinates the function of every cell in the body, is not free to do its job. That’s why its important to get you spine checked at least weekly because most of the nerves are not felt and you really do not know when you are subluxated.
Perhaps we need a major change in our attitude. Perhaps we need to focus on what causes health, what causes proper body function, what causes increased performance on a mental, physical and emotional level. It’s really rather simple: eating right, getting regular exercise, maintaining a nerve system free of interference (regular visits to your chiropractor) and having a positive mental attitude.
Can pushing on backbones help balance hormones?
I know what you’re saying… how can pushing on back bones affect how I function ‘inside’.. immunity, digestion, sleep, organ functions, stress reduction? Hormones too?
|“The organs, glands, and cells of the body must be working properly to produce just the right chemicals in just the right amounts at just the right time. Your NERVE system is critical in the coordination of that function” Joe Strauss, D. C.|
Every level of how you function is controlled by ‘Body Chemistry’. Body Chemistry is controlled by GLANDS whose job it is to make chemicals.
Most of the Glands produce hormones. You have heard of the big ones – Growth Hormone, Testosterone, Estrogen, etc.
The Glands are controlled by your Nervous System! The spinal bones PROTECT your nerves. A vertebral subluxation is a bone over which the body has lost some of its control. The misalignment of the bone – irritates – the nerves. The irritated nerves disrupt gland function. Improper gland function disrupts body chemistry. Disrupted body chemistry decrease YOUR performance levels!
A Chiropractic Adjustment restores the proper position and movement of the bone. This removes nerve irritation and restores nerve function! Restored nerve function ALLOWS for normal gland function. This helps balance body chemistry! Balanced chemistry increase YOUR performance!
Your Health: Less or More?:
When it comes to health, what are you hoping for? Less struggle? Less disease? Less risk? Less symptoms? Or . . More opportunities? More health!!? More energy? More vitality? More flexibility? etc.
I guess it all depends how you look at your life. We can take a reactive ( or less ) approach to life and health. In this scenario you are always putting out fires. You are kind of going with the flow. But who’s flow? You are always worried about catching the next disease or how to cure it. It can be a scary way to live because you have no control. It’s fear based and it can cause one to just run in place for years. You are basically running away from disease and trying to figure out how to get rid of your new ailment.
There is nothing wrong with addressing how you feel on a day to day basis, it’s part of life. But, to be really healthy and bounce back quick to the stresses of daily life takes a subtle shift of your focus.
We can easily shift our focus from ‘running away’, to ‘moving toward’. ‘Moving toward’ is a proactive (more) approach to life and health. You may think its prevention but its not. Its the mind-set of ‘what can I do today to build health’ in my body and life. For example; instead of exercising regularly to prevent bad health, you exercise to build health and vitality! Instead of eating well to prevent cancer, you eat well to build health and vitality. The basic fact is – disease cannot exist in a healthy body!
This also pertains to what I do for a living. Most people go to the chiropractor because they have an ache or a pain they want to get rid of. In other words, they want less of something. There is nothing wrong with that because we all want to feel better. However, a fact that most people don’t know is that about 80 – 90 percent of your nerves are for function, not pain. For example, your stomach, , your pancreas , liver, kidneys are performing hundreds of functions without your conscious control.
Everything we do effects our spine to some degree.
Chiropractic adjustments remove nerve interference to the nerve system at the spinal level and your body is ALWAYS better off with a good nerve supply!
What Can Chiropractic Do For You?
How about – Less Stress!
There is no denying that stress is a part of life. It’s not going away. Not all stress effects us in a negative way, some types of stress actually help us to get stronger.
How can chiropractic make your job easier or help your stress go away? Well , it can’t! But there is a difference between stress and adversity. Adversities are the circumstances of life. You cannot change them. Things happen to us every day in our jobs, family, etc.
It’s the INABILITY TO HANDLE those adversities that will lead to stress. The type of stress that leads to problems and can make us weaker! HOW WELL YOUR BODY IS WORKING determines to SOME DEGREE how much adversity you can handle and how much stress you have in your life.
Keeping the spine clear of nerve interference is ONE POWERFUL WAY to increase our bodies RESILIENCE so we can handle the ups and downs of life in a much healthier way!!
